About The Medium

The Medium is the Entertainment Weekly of Rutgers University. Founded in 1970 as the campus newspaper of Livingston College, The Medium has since grown to be the provider of a special brand of light-hearted humor to all Rutgers colleges in the New Brunswick, NJ area. The Medium is registered as a student organization with both Livingston College and Rutgers College and operates using student organiztion fees. The paper is printed weekly by RFM Printing and has a circulation of 6000, delivered every Wednesday to student centers, dining halls, and major classroom buildings of Rutgers University. We even have a set of official rules, it's called our constitution.

Q: Who writes this stuff?
A: Much of the content is done by the section editors, but any student at Rutgers can submit articles to The Medium. Some former Rutgers students have even written articles, and there are rumors that non-students have written articles, as well. While we generally are a humor publication, we often print articles of a different slant [disclaimer time: all articles are the opinions of the authors and not necessarily shared by The Medium].

Q: Who's responsible for this?
A: See the current list of editors under the "Semester Editors" on the home page.

Q: Who's no longer responsible for this?
A: See this list of former editorial boards

Q: Do you actually think some of this garbage is funny?
A1: No, we actually think it's hilarious.
A2: No, we'd prefer a few more jokes about the disabled, the oppressed, and your deceased family members. We are evil, after all.
A3: Yes, we do. We find that humor is our special way of dealing with the changing fortunes and hardships of life. We find that, as odd as it may sound, by making fun of some of these potentially scary and depressing things, we actually can better deal with them. OK, actually we don't feel that way, we just hate life and hate you, too.

Q: Hey, someone hurt my feelings with something they said on the Online Personals. Can I sue you?
A: Sorry, Charley! We can't be held responsible for what anonymous idiots say on our message board. See this recent ruling for more info. We do try to keep personal info off there just as a courtesy, however. We're just too good to you.

Q: Can I subscribe to The Medium?
A: Word up! You can subscribe to The Medium! The price is $10/semester (quite a bargain for all this comedy). Contact the Editor in Chief for more details.

About MediumWeb

The Medium's first pathetic thrusts into the online world began Fall 1997 and later came to fruition with the February 4, 1998 issue. That completed, nothing else was done for quite a while; college students have lives, you know? Things (finally) got back on track in Spring of 2000, starting with the January 26 issue. The new online editor, Michael Molino, put aside his infatuation with progressive rock long enough to make the Medium web site something to be proud of. The current webmaster only hopes he can live up to the glory of Molino.

MediumWeb is optimized for (read: created while) viewing with Netscape 7 on a PC using Windows 2000 with screen resolution set at 1024 x 768. We don't have the time to test it at every setting, browser, and platform, but if it looks really out of whack, let the webmaster know.
